DR1 - The recent heavy rains have left around 1500 homes under water in Licey and Tamboril, in Santiago, and Sosua in Puerto Plata province
Most people who were affected have gone to houses of friends or neighbors. In Puerto Plata province the areas most affected are Bella Vista, Maranata, El Batey and Sosua Abajo, after the Sosua River flooded. In Monte Adentro, Las Palomas, Don Pedro and Licey, in Santiago, at least 450 homes have been affected by flooding.
The Civil Defense says that the river in Tamboril also burst its banks, causing flooding in that area.
In Hato Mayor dozens of families have had to leave the areas of Los Cocos, La Javilla, Las Malvinas and Las Guamas due to rising water levels along the Magua and Pana-Pana rivers. Read original at DR1.
