Ring beat and forced Haitian children to beg in Dominican capital
Story Text & Photos © 2013 by Dominican Today May 20 2013 11:59AM

Dominican Today -
Santo Domingo- The members of the dismantled network who trafficked with Haitian children beat them savagely if they returned home without money, after being forced to beg at busy intersections of the capital, many having spent entire days without being given anything to eat.
The ring kept the more than 58 rescued minors under a reign of terror, so much so that despite the beatings and receiving only 100 pesos for food for an entire day, and the psychological abuse, they always returned to their “hell“ of a home in the sector Los Alcarrizos, 15 kilometers north of the capital.
Justice minister Francisco Dominguez said most of the money from the children beggars went directly into the pockets of the ring’s members, “who inhumanely punished their victims, if they didn’t come up with the daily quota established. “
And despite the 22 simultaneous raids at Los Alcarrizos with 20 people arrested, the authorities said the crime ring’s remnants are still operating.
Such is the case of a 13 year-old Haitian girl and her brother of 8, who on Sunday were being forced to beg at the intersection of the Núñez de Cáceres with Romulo Betancourt avenues.
“My cousin makes me beg everyday, but I don’t want to and I have to come to take the money she asks me for. Leave already, they are looking at me and then they will hit be,“ she told reporters of newspaper El Dia, as she walked quickly away visibly terrified.
The girl, who lives in Los Alcarrizos, also revealed that her parents left her in the country to live with her 20 year old cousin some time ago and since then, is forced to spend as many as 17 hours begging.

. . Read original at Listin Diario.
