Story Text & Photos © 2012 by DR1 Jun 2 2012 11:59AM
DR1 - The Holy See press office announced yesterday, Thursday May 31 that Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Monsignor Fausto Ramon Mejia Vallejo, rector of the Catholic Technology University of Cibao (UCATECI) as the new bishop of San Francisco de Macoris. Mejia Vallejo will replace Monsignor Jesus Maria De Jesus Moya, who resigned upon reaching the age of 75, the age limit for the post. Listin Diario reports that the new bishop was born on 15 December 1941 in Bejucal in the diocese of La Vega, and studied philosophy, theology and education at the Santo Tomas of Aquino Seminary in Santo Domingo. He was ordained in Bonao in 1972, and was sent to Rome where he obtained his doctorate in spiritual theology. On his return to the Dominican Republic he became a parish priest, a head of two seminaries and a professor of theology. Read original at DR1.
