. . Dominican Today - Santo Domingo- The major labor unions on Thursday announced a march to the National Palace on May 1, International Labor Day, in rebuke of what they call management’s push to revert their accomplishments in the labor code. Rafael –Pepe- Abreu, head of the labor unions grouped in the CNUS, said the campaign launched Wed. by the National Council Business (CONEP) only seeks to mislead workers, “but what they really do is increase the rejection of the amendment to the labor code. ” Yesterday the CONEP launched a media campaign on its proposed amendment to the labor code, which it affirms covers a higher number of workers. In this regard the union leader said that employers’ proposal has spurred so much rebuke, that they’ve had to conduct a counter-campaign to convince people, but in fact has created more rejection. He said to amend the labor code the labor sector will propose a change in the National Wage Committee’s structure to raise all salaries and not just the minimum. In a press conference, Abreu said workers will demand a higher minimum wage as agreed to last year and urged business leaders to be ready to discuss it. Read original at Dominican Today.
