SANTO DOMINGO. - The start of Barahona-Santo Domingo flights with Air Century marks the South Region’s launch as Dominican Republic’s most varied tourism destination for local or foreign visitors who want to explore the wonders of its vast beaches, stunning landscapes and unrivalled cultural diversity.
The airline’s three weekly flights Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays from Joaquin Balaguer International Airport, at La Isabela in Santo Domingo will reach Barahona’s Maria Montez terminal in just 30 minutes, with available connections to the airport at Punta Cana using AE JetStream 3100/3200 Turbo Prop for up to 19 passengers.
“The start of flights will have a major impact on tourism facilities, which will be able to increase their occupancy, sell more of their tours, and promote the sale of handicrafts and local cuisine. New entrepreneurs will also visit the Southwest, bringing fresh investment and growth for the tourism industry, agriculture and mining,” said Barahona Tourism and Production Cluster president Julio Brache.
For Cluster vice president Polibio Schiffino, “Barahona has an unique capacity to exploit niche markets such as ecotourism, adventure, health and agro-tourism, and for that Barahona has excellent accommodations and for world-class services which satisfy the needs of a segment of the public with a high-purchasing capacity. “
