Santo Domingo.– The Dominican Republic will end 2009 with positive
economic data despite the crisis that affected the world during the first four months of the year, Tourism
Minister, Francisco Javier García, said at the
opening ceremony of the National
Association of Hotels and Restaurants (Asonahores) 23rd exhibition .
"This is a year with many
positive expectations after the huge crisis,
despite the February and March numbers
when tourism dropped by more than 6 points but later recovered once
again in May by 2.75 growth points," he state.
García Fernández said the tourism sector is moving the country’s other
economic sectors in a positive direction and, for that reason, it should
be protected at all costs including strengthening any weakness it may find .
The minister also reported that Sectur and the private sector are working in the development of domestic tourism as noted in the
"Around the Dominican Republic in 80 Caravans" campaign, aimed at getting all Dominicans, regardless of
social-economic level, to get to know their country and be proud of its
beauty.
